Suspicious Fire in Vacant Motel on Yale Road in Chilliwack

Chilliwack – Around 7PM. on September 9, 2026, the Chilliwack Fire Department responded to
reports of a structure fire in the 46000 block of Yale Road.

NOTE that a recent stop work order (from WorkSafe BC) for the demolition of this structure was placed on the owner as there were concerns over asbestos.


Approximately 40 firefighters from Halls 1, 2, 4 and 6 responded to the incident. Upon arrival,
crews located light smoke coming from multiple units of a vacant motel.

Firefighters quickly established a water supply and initiated an offensive interior fire attack. Crews
worked to locate and contain the fire while conducting searches of the affected areas.


Fortunately, there were no occupants in the building and no injuries to residents or firefighters
were reported.

The circumstances surrounding the fire are considered suspicious and remain under investigation by the Chilliwack Fire Department and the RCMP.
