Chilliwack – Ten years ago, the Nick Taylor Charity Classic was created as a way to bring people together through golf and give back to the community that had supported a young golfer from the Fraser Valley on his journey to the PGA TOUR.
Last week, that journey reached a remarkable milestone.
The 10th annual Nick Taylor Charity Classic raised a record $589,000, bringing the event’s total fundraising over the past decade to more than $3.5 million in support of charities, community initiatives and student-athlete scholarships.
And while the numbers are impressive, the real story of the Classic is the people behind them.
Over the past 10 years, the event has brought together thousands of golfers, volunteers, sponsors, friends, family members and community supporters. What began as a golf tournament has grown into an annual celebration of the Fraser Valley — one that has continued to evolve alongside Taylor’s remarkable career.
The 2026 Classic featured two days of celebration, beginning with golf at Cultus Lake Golf Club on September 3, followed by the annual charity gala on September 4. The 10th anniversary gala brought together supporters for an evening of food, entertainment, dancing and giving, while celebrating the people and organizations who have helped make the event what it is today.
For Taylor and his wife, Andie, the 10th anniversary was as much about celebrating that community as it was celebrating Nick’s accomplishments on the golf course.
“When we started this event 10 years ago, we could never have imagined what it would become,” said Taylor. “Andie and I feel incredibly fortunate to have grown up in and around the Fraser Valley, to have experienced the meaningful support of this community and to now be able to raise ourkids here. This event reflects that commitment to community, and I’m truly humbled to have my name on it.”
That career has evolved dramatically over the same period.
Taylor is now a five-time PGA TOUR winner and Olympian, with some of the most memorable moments in Canadian golf history along the way. His 2023 RBC Canadian Open victory — capped by a remarkable 72-foot eagle putt on the fourth playoff hole — became an iconic moment in Canadian sport.
And the week of this year’s Classic brought another major milestone, with Taylor being selected to represent the International Team at the Presidents Cup, taking place later this month at Medinah Country Club outside Chicago.
But as Taylor reflected on the past decade, it was the people behind the Classic who remained at the center of his thoughts.
“We’ve been incredibly lucky to have so many people believe in this event year after year,” said Taylor. “The sponsors, volunteers, golfers, friends, family and community organizations have all played a part in making it what it is. Andie and I are so grateful to everyone who has supported us and helped us give back to a community that has given us so much.”
Taylor also recognized the event’s presenting sponsor, Algra Bros., and the continued support of his brand partners: Adidas, Audi, Boomi, RBC, United Rentals, and Titleist.
“Our presenting sponsor Algra Bros. and our corporate partners have been incredible supporters of the Classic,” Taylor said. “Their ongoing commitment allows us to keep growing the event and, most importantly, keep giving back. We’re incredibly thankful for their partnership.”
The Classic’s 2026 charity partners were Archway Community Services, Chilliwack Community Services, Jumpstart, First Tee and the University of the Fraser Valley.
The event’s impact over the past decade has extended well beyond the annual two-day celebration. Funds raised through the Classic have supported community organizations, youth golf initiatives and scholarships for UFV student-athletes, helping create opportunities for young people throughout the region.
The event has also helped fuel the growth of golf in the Fraser Valley, including the creation of the First Tee Fraser Valley chapter at Cultus Lake Golf Club.
For Taylor, reaching the 10-year mark is less about looking back than appreciating the people who made the journey possible — and looking forward to what comes next.
“Ten years is a pretty incredible milestone, but what means the most to us is knowing how many people have been part of this along the way,” said Taylor. “We’re proud of the money we’ve raised, but we’re even more proud of the relationships, friendships and community that have grown around this event. We’re excited to see where we can take it over the next 10 years.”
