Chilliwack – Tru Charitable Foundation, formerly First West Foundation, has awarded $35,500 in grants so far this year to Chilliwack-area charities .
Among this year’s recipients is the Sardis Doorway for Mothers & Children Society, one of several local organizations receiving support through the Foundation’s Envision Financial Regional Community Endowment.
The Sardis Doorway for Mothers & Children Society received $15,000 to provide training to program volunteers, as well as leadership training. Helping further their mission to journey with mothers of preschool aged children who are parenting alone and under supported in their healing journey. Doorway provides quality programs and relevant supports to single mothers through their various program offerings.
“This group helped me grow not only as a parent, but as a person,” says Ashleigh, Sardis Doorway graduate. “It taught me that accepting help is not a weakness. It taught me that I am worthy of support, connection and belonging. It helped me build confidence, find my voice, and continue healing in ways I didn’t expect.”
Since 1996, Tru Charitable Foundation has awarded more than $15 million in grants to charities supporting communities served by Envision Financial and the other local brands of Tru Cooperative Bank. In 2026, the Foundation is investing $1.839 million through 19 endowments to support registered charities in 34 communities across British Columbia. Guided by a trust-based philanthropy approach, the Foundation provides flexible funding to organizations addressing challenges including poverty, food insecurity, mental health, education and inequality, while also strengthening the charitable sector through learning and development partnerships.
