On August 10, there were reports of a major fire at North West Rubber Ltd. (Highway 11 and Industrial Way)
From City of Abbotsford – The Hub Of The Fraser Valley: Early Monday morning, there was a fire at a rubber plant on Industrial Way near Hwy 11. Crews continue to work to put out the fire and dark smoke remains in the area. Some people may smell smoke as it spreads. People are asked to avoid the area and stay clean air locations indoors to limit exposure if they notice smoke.
From Abbotsford Police Department: Overnight, Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service responded to a large industrial structure fire near Highway 11 and Industrial Avenue. This morning, the Abbotsford Police Department has received numerous inquiries regarding a noticeable odour in the air across eastern Abbotsford.
The odour is related to the fire at the rubber plant, and residents in eastern areas of the city may continue to notice the smell throughout the morning.
