Chilliwack (with files from Chilliwack Breaking News 24/7) – The Chilliwack Fire Department responded to two separate fire incidents Wednesday (July 22) morning, just 15 minutes apart.
At approximately 8:30 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to a reported structure fire in the 8000 block of Shrewsbury Drive. Approximately 22 firefighters from Fire Halls 1 and 4 responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, crews found a two-story residential home with a fully involved attached garage, with fire extending into the home. The first-arriving engine initiated an exterior defensive attack and quickly knocked down the main body of the fire. Crews then transitioned to an interior attack, entering the home to fully extinguish the remaining fire.
Due to the dry conditions, firefighters also checked surrounding trees and brush for any spot fires that may have been caused by embers from the structure fire.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. However, preliminary information indicates the fire may have originated from a vehicle in the attached garage.
One firefighter was treated at the scene by BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) for a minor injury.
While crews were still actively engaged at the Shrewsbury Drive incident, a second call was received at approximately 8:45 a.m. reporting an RV trailer on fire near a home on Landing Drive. Approximately 12 firefighters from Fire Halls 1, 2, and 6 responded.
Upon arrival, crews found the RV trailer involved in fire. Firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control and prevented the fire from spreading to the home.
No civilian injuries were reported in either incident
