City of Mission Homeless Forum April 27

Mission (Sophia Northeast BC Radio Arts and Journalism) -Wednesday, April 27 Mission is hosting a community forum on homelessness at the Leisure Centre.

This event is an opportunity to hear from local providers about what they offer. Also give their perspectives on what is working, what more needs, and how the community can increase their knowledge and awareness.

2018 was the last time the city of mission hosted the homelessness forum where they saw over a hundred attend.

At this event people will share their first-hand experience of being homeless and what helped them become housed.

“Mission has struggled with the issue of homelessness for far too long and it’s clear that the problem is growing,” said Mayor Paul Horn. “It takes a community-wide effort to provide safe, effective options that work for everyone. We want everyone in Mission to be fully informed and to have a voice, so we are hoping for a great turnout.”

This event is for all ages with no pre-registration. Participants are invited to discuss themes related to homelessness. The goal of these conversations will be to summarize and include the development of the City’s new Community Wellness Strategy.

This City-hosted event follows the recent completion of the City’s Affordable Housing Strategy which seeks to reduce housing gaps, support the delivery of more housing units, collaborate with partners, and ensure residents have access to affordable and diverse housing options now and into the future. Discussion on the next steps in the strategy and what community building means in post-COVID.

If you’re interested in attending this event will be held at Mission Leisure Centre Gymnasium on 7650 Grand Street from 6 PM – 9 PM
