Giants Thump Kelowna 6-2

Kamloops (Josh Olund BCIT Radio A&E) – After being shut out by the Prince George Cougars on Wednesday, the Vancouver Giants were not wanting to have a similar output on Friday against the Kelowna Rockets.

Needless to say, they put on a show, thumping the Kelowna Rockets 6-2.

In the opening frame, the Giants would waste no time getting on the scoresheet as Tristen Nielsen opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal at 1:52 of the first period to give the Giants an early 1-0 lead. However, it would stay that way for the rest of the period as the Giants weren’t able to capitalize on any other opportunities.

In the second period, the Giants would be the first ones to score in the period as Tanner Brown scored at 5:13 to double the Giants lead, but the Rockets would respond quickly as they cut the lead in half off of a Steel Quiring goals at 6:44of the second to make it 2-1 Giants.Just past the halfway point of the second, Nielsen would score his second goal of the game, which is also his 15th of the season, to give the Giants another two-goal lead, this time on the powerplay at 10:10 to make it 3-1.Just 34 seconds later though, Justin Sourdif would score on the powerplay as well and make it a4-1 game at 10:44 of the second period.A little over four minutes later, Sourdif would add his second goal of the game, this time shorthanded at 14:53 to make it 5-1 Giants and it would remain that way heading into intermission.

In the third period, the Giants would score their third powerplay goal of the game, this time from Adam Hall at 9:43 to give the Giants a convincing6-1 lead over the Rockets. But the Rockets would be able to add a powerplay goal of their own at 12:57 from Kaedan Korczak to make it a 6-2 game, but that’s how it would stay until the final buzzer.

With that win, the Giants improve to a record of 11-9-0putting them in second place in the B.C.Division, and at this point, however, they won’t be able to pass the Kamloops Blazers with the Giants only having two more games left in their season. The next Giants game is Saturday, May8, at 7:00 PM in Kamloops against the Blazers.
