Giants Dump Victoria 5-3

Vancouver (Josh Olund – BCIT Jounaism) – The Vancouver Giants came out on top against the Victoria Royals Wednesday night with a 5-3victory.The Royals opened up the scoring off a power-play goal from Brayden Tracey at 3:25 into the first period to take an early 1-0 lead.

But the Giants responded later in the period with a power-play goal of their own from Alex Kannok Leipertat 15:32 to tie the game at 1-1.

In the second period, the Royals opened the scoring once again early with another power-play goal from Tarun Fizer to take a 2-1 lead 2:58 into the frame.However, the Giants answered back with two more power-play goals 83 seconds apart. One from Eric Florchuk at 14:58 and the other from Justin Sourdif at 16:21 to take a 3-2 lead going into the third period.

With that goal from Sourdif,he extends his point streak to eight games. In those eight games, he’s registered five goals and10 assists.In the third period, Zack Ostapchuk scored the eventual game-winning goal 3:18 into the period to make it 4-2. The Royals would get one more goal at 4:57 from Ty Yoder to make it 4-3, but the Giants would add one more from Justin Lies for extra insurance at 13:47.

Justin Sourdif earned first-star honours (1G, 2A)and Alex Kannok Leipert earned second-star honours (1G, 2A). The Giants are now 4-0 against the Royals this season.With the victory, the Giants are now first in the B.C. Division with a record of 9-3-0.The next Giants game is on Saturday, April 24th at7:05 PM against the Kelowna Rockets.
