CGH Gets Additional Parking, But No Parkade … Yet

Chilliwack, BC (With files from Chilliwack Progress) – One of the biggest complaints, if not THE BIGGEST COMPLAINT of Chilliwack General Hospital is not staff or the health care at CGH.

It’s parking.

Some relief is coming soon.

Abbotsford Mayor Henry Braun is also the Board Chair for the Fraser Valley Regional Hospital District Board. He confirmed that the property at 9005 Mary Street in Chilliwack was recently purchased by for $1.2M.

Mayor Braun has been quoted as saying “There’s an immediate need for 50 to 75 parking stalls, but this lot will accommodate more.”

Councilor Jason Lum, the Vice Chair of the Hospital District Board, said they get “tons and tons” of calls and complaints at Chilliwack City Hall about the parking problems.

There is the possibility that a parkade could be built down the road, but that is not something that is on the immediate radar. For now its a wuick paving job, paint some lines and park some cars.

The property is listed at 9005 Mary Street, where an old home that was converted into a walk in clinic, was once standing.

That was demolished in 2013.

The previous owners and the Hospital Board made contact. The owner was eager to sell and the Hospital Board was very interested when the for sale sign was literally put in the path of CGH and the Fraser Valley Regional Hospital Board.
