Abbotsford’s 40-Bed Temporary Homeless Shelter Opens Monday (VIDEO)

Abbotsford, BC (with files from Abby News) – Come Monday afternoon, the 40-bed temporary homeless shelter on Riverside Road opens on December 21.

The $1.2 million project will be run by the non-profit Lookout Emergency Aid Society. Shayne Williams, executive director of Lookout, says they hope to open the doors early that afternoon.

Abby Mayor Henry Braun took to social media to remind FVN about the financial contribution breakdown.

“Abbotsford will contribute $750K; BC Gov’t $450K.” Braun’s blog posted a reminder and video from the November 26th announcement.

The video features Abbotsford MLA Darryl Plecas:

This shelter falls in line with our Homelessness Action Plan and our Housing First approach to providing a wide spectrum of opportunities that will reduce the risk of homelessness in our community.

Many thanks to the Government of BC, BC Housing, MLAs Mike de Jong, Simon Gibson, and Darryl Plecas, my colleagues on Council, and the citizens of Abbotsford for your commitment to help those in need.
