UFV Cascades Men’s Volleyball Team In Search Of New Coach

Abbotsford – The University of the Fraser Valley will seek a new men’s volleyball head coach for the 2019-20 season, after parting ways with Kyle Donen.

During Donen’s five-year tenure at the helm (2014-15 through 2018-19), the Cascades posted a 52-68 record in PACWEST conference play, highlighted by a program-record 17 wins and a second-place finish in the regular-season standings in 2016-17. Two UFV players earned CCAA All-Canadian honours under Donen’s tutelage: Adam Chaplin (2015-16) and Joel Kleingeltink (2016-17).

In 2018-19, the Cascades missed the PACWEST playoffs with a 2-22 record.

“We’re thankful to Kyle for his commitment to the program over the past five years, and wish him all the best in his future endeavors,” said Steve Tuckwood, UFV director of athletics and campus recreation.

The UFV athletic department will begin the search for a new men’s volleyball coach in the coming weeks.

“I’m thankful for my time at UFV, and the experience I had with the athletes I was fortunate enough to meet and grow with,” Donen said. “I also enjoyed working with the staff at UFV Athletics, and I wish all the best to the program in the future.”

The Cascades have applied to move the men’s and women’s volleyball teams from the PACWEST up to Canada West starting with the 2020-21 season; the conference will vote on the application at the Canada West AGM in May.
