Chilliwack – Early Monday morning February 19. Chilliwack Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire in a semi-detached carport of an apartment complex in the 9000 block of Edward Street.
Heavy fire and smoke was venting from three fully involved vehicles in the carport, with fire extending up into the semi-detached six-unit apartment complex. All occupants of the apartment complex had safely evacuated from the building.
The apartment complex sustained significant fire and smoke damage, displacing six families. Adjacent buildings sustained radiant heat damage, and three vehicles were destroyed in the fire.
No one was hurt and the fire is under investigation.
One neighbour commented to FVN:
Oh my God I woke up to this I certainly hope everybody is okay this is just very sad. Edit seems to have started in the carport, I took some bottled water out and some blankets, lots of the tenants coughing. Hopefully victims services comes soon, there are some elderly ones out there and I worry about them.
