Chilliwack – A 23 year old mom, Shaelene Keeler Bell, went missing on January 30, 2021. Her body was found on June 2, 2021 in the Fraser River near Coquitlam. An extensive search brought a community together as we asked questions.
The Ambera Alert system has been up for a number of years, but its focus is on kids and teens.
Why not adults over the age of 18?
Since her daughter’s death, her mom, Alina Durham has been pushing for changes to the criteria (to include adults over 18)
NOTE Alina and her husband are friends of FVN’s Editor Don Lehn, so there is an obvious emotional bias in this story.
Ms Durham was at Townshend Park on Canada Day asking for people to sign a petition to increase the Amber Alert criteria
FVN story on January 2023 vigil is here.
June 2021 FVN story on cause of death is here.
BC’s Amber Alert system is a provincial entity so Durham is keying in on getting the local MLA’s involved.
The petition does not have to be hard copy – e-signatures are accepted. docdro.id/B7FBQov.
Once signed, drop it off or mail it to 47193 Sylvan Dr., Chilliwack B.C., V2R OR8.
Or print out a copy from FVN:
