Chilliwack – Students at Vedder Elementary were treated by EMS crews , complaining of a burning sensation in their eyes after touching the property fence.
This was Thursday Morning June 22.
FVN has learned that an investigation is underway over concerns that bear spray may have been discharged on the property.
Kids were sent home and so far no major injuries have been reported.
Rohan Arul-pragasam, Superintendent of Schools told FVN in an email on Friday that the backstop and both playgrounds were washed down as a precautionary measure.
Also on Friday, FVN received an update from Cpl. Martin Godard, Crime Prevention and Youth, Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment : Chilliwack RCMP was called to assist the Emergency Health Services (EHS) at a location in the 45000 block of Promontory Rd (V,edder Elementary) where approximately a dozen youth reported feeling a burning sensation in their eyes. It was determined the affected youth had touched a fence which was inspected and eventually washed off by the Chilliwack Fire Services. The exact nature of the irritant has not been determined. The youth were treated on scene and released to their respective guardians.
