Chilliwack – The 2023 PGA of BC Assistants’ & Seniors’ Championships at Chilliwack Golf Club wrapped up with a thrilling and electric finish. Steven Lecuyer (Seymour Creek Golf Centre) emerged victorious in the Assistants’ field, shooting a 67 today to finish the event at 9-under par, winning by one stroke. Rob Anderson (Kelowna Golf & Country Club) topped the Seniors’ Championship as the last man standing in a three-way playoff.
Lecuyer started the day tied for third place, with hopes of overtaking first round leader Cory Renfrew (Modern Golf Vancouver). Through four holes, he had already made a bogey and those hopes appeared nearly dashed. Over his final 14 holes, Lecuyer unleashed a barrage of pinpoint putts with scorching precision as he made six birdies, including a clutch two on the par-three 17th.
“To be honest, I didn’t hit it very well today, but I scrambled like crazy. The last two days, I haven’t given up and the putter really saved me,” said Lecuyer. “I tried to find something on the range this morning and I thought I did, but it’s kind of hard to translate out on the course when you’re trying to stay in contention. I struggled from tee to green, but it must have freed up some energy for my short game to excel.”
