Surrey/Boston Bar/Chilliwack/Oliver – Over one year ago, on August 22, 2018, the body of 28-year-old Belgian tourist Amelie Sakkalis was found near Highway 1 north of Boston Bar. Her death was deemed a homicide. Less than a month after IHIT took conduct of the investigation, 27-year-old Sean McKenzie was arrested and charged in connection with Amelie’s death.
On September 23, 2019, Sean McKenzie pleaded guilty to one count of second degree murder.
Sentencing was November 19. Castanet reports that Sean McKenzie, from Oliver, has been sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for at least 23 years.
McKenzie still has not explained why he committed the sexual assault and murder.
