Chilliwack – Former Chilliwack School Trustee Barry Neufeld was in Chilliwack court on Monday November 24, after he was ordered to follow procedure, ordered by court in the Dr. Carin Bondar case.
Neufeld said on social media that he would turn himself in at the Chilliwack Law Courts building Monday morning (November 24)after an order of committal was issued for his arrest. He also pointed out, again through social media, he has no way of paying the amount mandated by Justice K. Michael Stephens in an April 2024 ruling.
On two different faith based YouTube platforms in the US, one when the Bondar decision first came down and the second when he lost his appeal, he had claimed in both videos on his Facebook page, that he had no money, no funds for legal representation, lost his legal team and that he needed American help in his “fight”.
In a YouTube video posted November 24 and tagged: My message as I head off to Jail Monday morning:
Neufeld is expected to serve his one day at the Ford Mountain (Provincial) Correctional Centre.
Background:
In February 2025, various valley news reports noted that the B.C. Court of Appeal has dismissed an appeal from ex-Chilliwack School Board trustee Barry Neufeld after he was found liable in a 2024 defamation suit. That FVN story is here.
Neufeld has been ordered to pay $35,000 in general damages and $10,000 in punitive damages after Justice K. Michael Stephens ruled in favour of Chilliwack School Board trustee Carin Bondar in her defamation suit. In a video, Neufeld described Bondar as a “strip tease artist: , referring to a tonguwe in cheek videoBondar made for her UFV students.
NOTE – On April 11, 2024, Chlliwack School Trustee Dr Carin Bondar won her defamation lawsuit over former Chilliwack School Trustee Barry Neufeld.
Pattison Media reported that the judge sided with Bondar after the 2022 comments from Neufeld, calling the Doctor a “strip tease artist” after criticizing a Miley Cyrus parody video that Bondar said, was a teaching aid for her UFV classes. Neufeld must pay Dr. Bondar $35,000 in general damages and $10,000 in punitive damages. If there is no agreement on costs, then submissions would be filed in court.
On August 13, 2024, Black Press reported that Neufeld will appeal. In total , the decision could cost Neufeld $45,000 in damages and court costs.
