Fraser Valley – Operation Red Nose (ORN) is the annual National free ride program to get you home safely from your Yuletide festivities.
While the service is free of charge, that doesn’t mean there are costs. Yes volunteers to the driving and call taking, but sponsors are needed to pay for gas and a few cups of coffee for the staff.
There is also a lead in time for having criminal background checks done.
That is a lot of work and that can be overwhelming.
That seems to be the case for Operation Red Nose in the Fraser Valley. The service will not be available this year. Party goers will have to rely on taxi, Uber, Lyft, designated drivers and transit.
Chilliwack Restorative Justice used to organize in the eastern Fraser Valley. After the July 2025 fire at Chilliwack Community Policing on Wellington, where their offices were plus other “unforeseen circumstances”, they stopped their operation on November 1 2025. No one has picked up the slack.
Ina statement to FVN, Brian Martin, Board of Directors Chilliwack Restorative Justice and Youth Advocacy Association said: It is with sincere regret that the Board of Directors of the Chilliwack Restorative Justice and Youth Advocacy Association announces the discontinuation of our services, effective November 1, 2025. After more than two decades of dedicated service to our community, this difficult decision was made due to unforeseen circumstances. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all who have supported and partnered with us throughout the years.
In Abbotsford, Abbotsford Restorative Justice used to organize ORN for that community along with AbbyPD. AbbyPD Sgt Paul Wakler told FVN that ORN through Abbotsford Restorative Justice would not operate in 2025. He said he did not know the exact reason for that decision.
From Operation Red Nose website , the only BC communities providing the service in 2025 are:
Kamloops: November 28 to December 31
Prince George: from November 28 to December 31
Williams Lake: from November 28 to December 31
