Community impact / fundraising:
The race is more than a sporting event — it’s a community-driven initiative. Each year, proceeds help support Chilliwack-area organizations and scholarships. This past year, more than $11,000 was raised to support local groups.
Local human-interest stories:
- Athletes overcoming weather, injury, or tough terrain: in 2024, runners contended with record-setting rainfall and mud, making their finishing times even more impressive.
- Youth and families participating (kids’ race) — a chance to highlight future runners, community health, local families, etc.
- Relay teams with community groups, clubs, or charity teams.
Scenic / environmental appeal:
The route loops around Cultus Lake, mostly on forested trails and paths, with occasional beachside or roadside segments giving variety and views. The fall colours in October lend extra visual appeal.
Local economic / tourism boost:
Bringing in runners, support crews, families, and spectators from outside the immediate region helps local businesses (cafés, accommodations, retail).
It also highlights Chilliwack / Cultus Lake as a destination for outdoor and trail‐running tourism.
Legacy & consistency:
This is the 23rd annual edition of the race — showing staying power, tradition, and local roots.
