Chilliwack – Chilliwack Council Candidate Kevin Baarda Releases Platform – Finance and Front-line, Non-profit Experience.
Kevin Baarda, a Chilliwack finance manager and 21-year resident, has filed his nomination papers for Chilliwack City Council in the October 17 general local election.
Baarda is a Senior Finance Manager with Denbow Transport and a former Director of Operations at Ruth and Naomi’s Mission. He currently serves on the MCC-BC board.
“Most of what council decides is roads, sewers, infrastructure and development,” said Baarda. “This council has shown you can disagree at the table and still get things done, and I’d like to help keep it that way. I’ve spent my career working with teams to ensure strategic direction is set with a solid foundation in the numbers.”
As a finance professional, Baarda generally supports the approach taken by the current Council to fiscal management. “Current Chilliwack taxpayers benefit from lower property taxes because past councils didn’t take on loans to build infrastructure,” notes Baarda, “and policies like these help to maintain affordability in Chilliwack. Now is not the time for tax increases.”
