Chilliwack – Incumbent Board Chair David Swankey is running for Re-Election to Chilliwack School Trustee. His platform was released after the final nominations list was released on September 11.
From his social media David Swankey for Chilliwack School Trustee: I’m happy to acknowledge what is already known by many – I’m on the ballot again this fall and I am humbly asking for your vote to serve again.
Campaigns will be working hard over the next 35 days but the real work rests with you.
Be Curious – find out why someone is running and what they hope to accomplish. We have some great people running this year!
Be Kind – if we want a civil political dialogue in our community, we need to model it ourselves and expect it of those around us.
Be Active – election day is October 17th 2026. There are many ways to engage between now and then, but if you do nothing else, make a plan and cast your ballot on or before Saturday October 17th.
Swankey went on to outline four key priorities he believes to be
essential in the next term – Supporting Safe and Inclusive Schools,
Prioritizing Student Achievement and Success, Investing in Targeted and
Timely Intervention, and Maintaining a Fiscally Responsible Approach.
“We need to maintain strong leadership and good governance practices
over the next term” Swankey added, acknowledging the election as a
process of renewal with several seats to be vacated by outgoing members
of the board. “I’m seeking to bring these four priorities forward to
compliment the work of the district, while recognizing I’m just one of
seven trustees at that board table.”
A district parent of two elementary aged children Mr. Swankey has served
the board since 2018, taking on several roles and most recently serving
as Board Chair for the past two years. Beyond his role with the
Chilliwack School District, he contributes to the work of the BC School
Trustees Association (BCSTA), and currently serves at the provincial
table on their Board of Directors. Swankey also supports board work
outside the district, notably as Vice Chair for the Fraser Valley Child
Development Centre and Director with the BC Association for Child
Development and Intervention.
In closing, Swankey acknowledged the importance of public education to a
healthy community. “I care deeply about the well-being of public
education in Chilliwack and I’m passionate about this work. I’m asking
for your trust to bring that passion and experience to the table to
serve another term”.
