Luke Zandberg in the Running for Chilliwack City Council in October

Chilliwack – 26 year old Luke Zandberg is the latest candidate in the running for Chilliwack City Council in October. (October 17 is election day for Municpal votes).

From his Website (https://lukezandberg.ca): Luke Zandberg grew up in Chilliwack: street hockey on Lindys Drive, soccer at Exhibition Field, sledding by Twin Rinks, and years serving and volunteering with Central Community Church. Soccer has stayed part of his life, from youth leagues and pickup games to the local beer league he plays in today.

He has watched the city change around him. He remembers getting stuck behind tractors on Chilliwack Central Road as Garrison and Sardis expanded, apartments reshaped the downtown skyline, and new businesses helped bring life back to the downtown core. Many of the places he grew up enjoying are now part of his family life too — walks on the Vedder Trail with his wife, summers at Cultus Lake, and afternoons at local parks with their children. He has seen that Chilliwack can grow and change while still holding on to what makes it a good place to live.

Luke has also seen some of Chilliwack’s challenges become harder to ignore. Traffic lineups are longer as the city grows, and the Fraser Valley floods showed how quickly families and businesses can be disrupted. In parks and downtown, homelessness has become more visible, while theft and street disorder have also become harder to ignore. Break-ins, stolen bikes and property theft have become familiar concerns, alongside stories of people being followed or assaulted. There are parts of town where Luke would now think twice about walking alone at night. City Hall cannot solve every underlying cause — and should not pretend it can. But it is responsible for local infrastructure and public spaces, has a role in policing priorities and resources, and should advocate clearly for Chilliwack’s needs. Luke believes council should stay focused on those responsibilities and do them well.

Today, Luke works as a manager and installer in his family’s interior supply and installation business, working directly with homeowners, builders and businesses across Chilliwack. His background also includes provincial and federal political and campaign work. At 26, married and raising two children, he is running for City Council to help Chilliwack grow without falling behind on the basics. He does not expect to arrive at City Hall with every answer. He does expect to listen, learn quickly, ask good questions and put in the work to be an active, effective member of council.
