Abbotsford (Media Release) – Abbotsford School Trustee Mike Rauch has announced he will seek re-election in the October 17 municipal election. First elected four years ago on a commitment to bring accountability and proven leadership to the Board of Education, Rauch says his priorities remain clear: strong foundations for student success, planning for Abbotsford’s rapid growth, and ensuring transparent decision-making.
A resident of Abbotsford for more than 30 years, Rauch brings extensive leadership experience with a background in mechanical engineering, business, and aviation. He previously served as CEO of FlexiForce North America, a multimillion-dollar manufacturing company employing 300 people across 14 locations worldwide, before moving into industrial land development and lease management as President of Cahilty Capital. An entrepreneur, coach, commercial pilot, and father of six, Rauch brings a strong belief that long-term planning, responsible decision-making, and investing in young people are essential to building a strong community.
“Our schools play a vital role in shaping the future of our community,” said Rauch. “As Abbotsford continues to grow, we must ensure every student has the opportunities, support, and learning environment they need to succeed. Trustees have a responsibility to make thoughtful, evidence-based decisions that put students first.”
During his first term, Rauch helped shape the district’s four-year strategic plan with a strong emphasis on early learning, literacy, and numeracy. He also advocated for expanded extracurricular opportunities in arts and athletics, recognizing their role in building confidence, resilience, and lifelong interests. In addition, he consistently supported greater Board transparency and stronger parent engagement.
Rauch’s platform is built around four priorities:
- Strong Foundations for Student Success – Strengthening literacy, numeracy, early learning, and extracurricular opportunities.
- Open Communication – Improving communication, public engagement, and accountability.
- Strategic Planning – Expanding school capacity and advocating for exceptional neighbourhood schools as Abbotsford grows.
- Individualized Education – Ensuring all students have fair access to district programs, resources, and supports.
Outside the boardroom, Rauch is an avid mountain biker and race organizer who volunteers by leading youth mountain biking camps for children ages 6 to 14, helping them develop technical skills, confidence, and resilience.
