Langley – Langley Strong has filed a formal complaint with the Township of Langley’s Chief Election Officer, Bylaw Enforcement, and Elections BC regarding multiple election rule violations by Mayor Eric Woodward’s slate, Progress for Langley.
The complaint alleges that Progress for Langley has repeatedly violated Township rules and campaign bylaws by using municipal assets, official crests, and council facilities for campaign materials, as well as installing campaign boards nearly two months before the permitted sign period under Bylaw No. 6118.
Key highlights of the complaint include:
Call for Equal Enforcement: The Township previously enforced Bylaw No. 6118 against Langley Strong in June by ordering transit-shelter ads removed. Langley Strong is requesting that the rules be applied evenly to all slates.
Unauthorized Use of Municipal Assets: Use of the official Township crest, logos, and municipal project renderings on campaign signs, ads, and video materials.
Filming on Township Property: Candidates filmed inside Council Chambers, at council desks, and at active municipal construction sites.
Premature Campaign Signs: Installation of campaign boards in Fort Langley on August 3—seven weeks ahead of the September 26 start date mandated by Bylaw No. 6118.
The complaint asks the Chief Election Officer to investigate, rule in writing on each item, require removal or correction of non-compliant material, and apply Bylaw No. 6118 to Progress for Langley as it was applied to Langley Strong. Matters under the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act have been referred to Elections BC. The complaint is now with Township officials.
Municipal Elections are October 17.
