Hope (District of Hope is with Alertable in Hope) – Flood Watch – Updated Information
Residents: Pre-filled sandbags are available as of 9:00 a.m. at the former “Car Guys” lot (1205 Nelson Avenue). These are intended for residents experiencing flooding concerns.
Environment & Climate Change Canada has upgraded the rainfall advisory for our region:
Rainfall: 80–110 mm expected
Areas affected: Fraser Valley – central (including Chilliwack) and east (including Hope, Hope Slide, and Hwy 3 from Hope to Princeton – western sections)
Timing: Ongoing now through this evening
What to expect:
• Heavy rain associated with an atmospheric river
• Rising freezing levels causing snowmelt
• Saturated ground increasing runoff
• High streamflows and localized flooding are likely
• Reduced visibility at times; some roads may become impassable
Yesterday’s Flood Watch from the BC River Forecast Centre remains active. Rivers rose overnight and are expected to continue rising through today and into Thursday.
Our Operations crew is actively monitoring local conditions, as well as any new information from the BC River Forecast Centre, and will respond as needed.
