Fraser Valley – WVB: Talia Attieh sets new Cascades program record with eight aces in five-set victory

Talia Attieh notched a team-high eight aces as the UFV Cascades came out with a five-set victory (25-17, 25-23, 24-26, 19-25, 15-11) over the UBC Okanagan Heat on Saturday. That mark of eight service aces in a match sets a new Cascades’ program record since joining Canada West, and also ties for the seventh highest match total in conference history. Teammate Gabrielle Attieh currently holds the second spot on that conference list thanks to an 11 ace performance for UBC in 2020. 

The Cascades win moves them to 19-3, as they head into the final weekend of the season next week against the University of Alberta. UBC Okanagan drops to 9-13 this year with the defeat. 

The Cascades return home to face the University of Alberta next weekend to close out the season on Friday and Saturday. Saturday’s match will also be the team’s annual senior night, where the Cascades will honour graduating fifth-year players Gabrielle Attieh and Kristen McBride

MVB: Kastelein’s 14 kills powers Cascades to three-set win over UBCO

Caleb Katelein collected a match-high 14 kills as the UFV Cascades took down the UBCO Heat in straight sets (25-20, 25-23, 25-23) on Saturday in Kelowna.

The Cascades win moves them to 7-15 on the year, while the Heat drop to 2-20.

The Cascades return home to face the University of Alberta next weekend to close out the season on Friday and Saturday. Saturday’s match will also be the team’s annual senior night, where the Cascades will honour a number of graduating players.

WBB: Cascades finish regular season with Senior Night win over TWU

The UFV Cascades closed out their regular season on Saturday with a 63-50 victory over the Trinity Western University Spartans on Saturday. The win boosts the Cascades to 17-3 on the season, and they head into the playoffs on a seven-game win streak. Meanwhile, the Spartans drop to 12-8 on the year. 

The Cascades honoured graduating senior Natalie Rathler after the game, as the fifth year forward played her final regular season game for the Cascades on Saturday.

MBB: Buzzer beater downs Cascades in final regular season game

Trinity Western’s David Mutabazi dropped a shot from in-tight at the buzzer to send the Trinity Western University Spartans to a thrilling 77-76 win over the UFV Cascades on Saturday at the UFV Athletic Centre. 

The loss sees the Cascades fall to 8-12, and still in control of the final Canada West playoff spot, while the Spartans season comes to an end at 5-12.

The Cascades honoured graduating senior Dylan Kinley before the game, as the fifth year guard played his final regular season game for the Cascades on Saturday.

The Cascades now await the results of the rescheduled games between TRU and Victoria to learn the draw for the Canada West Men’s Basketball Playoffs hosted by the University of Manitoba starting February 21.
