Chilliwack – Now that the eviction notice for the Island 22 homeless camp has come and gone, the slow move to elsewhere is well underway.
Social media has been lighting up of where they are going to.
In one case, some of the campers/trailers simply moved down the road from Island 22 to another private property and allegedly the owner is none too pleased.
The long standing camp was on land owned by Shxwhá:y Village which is now needed for the flood protection project and the area will be used for staging.
Some of the campers and trailers are now showing up off Industrial Way near the Fraser River.
There have been social media posts that others are now settled off road in the Chilliwack River Valley.
There have been questions raised on who is actually paying for the move and demolition of the camp. FVN understands that cost goes to the owners of the campers and RV’s
FVN has reached out to Shxwhá:y Village Chief Robert Gladstone for clarification.
