Chilliwack (with files from Roger Pannett Environment Canada) – After the warmest December on record (since 1895) with mean temperatures at 6.8 °C, an amazing 3.5°C above normal, during the first week of January mild damp conditions continued.
It was the coldest Chilliwack January minimum temperature since the -17.8°C on January 28, 1951.
On January 17 th ,as moisture from a pacific low pressure system interacted with the north easterly arctic outflow, a heavy snowfall with blowing and drifting
snow occurred . The Chilliwack storm total was 38.8 cm plus drifts at >56 cm. It was the heaviest Chilliwack snowfall since the 39.6 cm on February 11/12, 2019.
