Victoria/Fraser Valley – New provincial housing legislation passed in 2023, includes providing $51 million to 188 local governments to help them meet the new requirements.
“As the population of our province continues to grow, we’re giving local governments a hand with pressing housing needs by providing up-front funding to help transition to new housing regulations” said Pam Alexis, MLA for Abbotsford-Mission. “It’s great to have so many levels of government working together towards the same goal of getting more people into homes, faster.”
The city of Abbotsford is receiving $910,980 and the Fraser Valley Regional District is receiving $203,293.
The City of Mission is receiving $345,952 and the Fraser Valley Regional District is receiving $203,923.
“Our housing strategy is about building more homes for people, faster, and that’s why we’re providing local governments with this funding up-front,” said Dan Coulter, MLA for Chilliwack, “By helping local governments adapt to new regulations now, we can get moving faster on more housing across B.C.”
In the Chilliwack and Kent area, the following municipalities are receiving funding:
- Chilliwack- $587,196
- Harrison Hot Springs- $157,599
- Kent- $181,222
- Fraser Valley Regional District- $203,923
