Abboitsford – Residents of the Fraser Valley will have an opportunity this weekend to demonstrate their support for a ceasefire in Gaza. On January 20 at 1 p.m., a Peace Rally for Gaza will be held in Jubilee Park on McCallum Road in Abbotsford. The event is being organized by concerned citizens who have come together as Solidarity for Palestinian Human Rights (SPHR) Fraser Valley.
“The massacre of Israeli civilians by Hamas gunmen on October 7 was horrific and must be condemned in the strongest possible terms,” said Philip Sherwood, one of the organizers. “However, since then, the Israeli military has killed over 24,000 residents of Gaza, most of whom are women and children, and forcibly displaced more than 85 percent of the population. A humanitarian catastrophe is taking place before our eyes. This is not self-defence, but an ongoing slaughter of the civilians of Gaza. Saturday’s rally is an opportunity for citizens of conscience to peacefully gather and demand an end to this carnage.”
Participants are encouraged to bring signs, banners, flags, and other peaceful expressions of support.
