Chilliwack Firefighters Local posted: Wednesday, just before 12 o’clock noon, we were dispatched to a barn fire on Carey Rd. The barn was fully involved upon arrival. The barn was a complete loss, so the priorities became to save what was immediately adjacent to the burning structure. We were successful at keeping damage to a minimum with no fire extension into the second barn. In order to keep water flowing, a water shuttle was required as the immediate rural area is not hydranted. We used water tankers from Hall 2, Hall 4, and Hall 6 to fill at the closest hydrant and then bring water to the scene. We wish a quick recovery/rebuild for the owners of the property, and would like to remind the citizens that as we begin approaching wildfire season use this as a reminder to Fire Smart your property, which can help the reduction of fire spread on properties like this. Stay Safe!
