Métis Nation British Columbia Announces Mandatory Vaccination Policy

Surrey– Métis Nation British Columbia (MNBC), the largest Indigenous government in BC, announced that all employees, vendors, and visitors are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to come to MNBC offices. The policy, which will take effect Monday, October 4th, is applicable to all MNBC offices, including the six regional offices throughout the province.

Staff will be required to provide proof of at least one single dose of a Health Canada approved COVID-19 vaccine by October 4th. By November 15th, if not already confirmed, staff who had only received one dose will need to provide proof of double vaccination. If at that time, staff remain unvaccinated contrary to the policy, they will be placed on unpaid leave from the organization.

“We need to do our part to help get us through the last leg of this pandemic,” says Daniel Fontaine, CEO and Deputy Minister at MNBC. “We support the Provincial Health Office and their work in getting our population vaccine. We support the science on the vaccines.”

“Part of being leaders is to make difficult decisions,” says Lissa Dawn Smith, MNBC Acting President. “I am confident that this is the necessary action to protect our staff, our citizens, our Elders, and our communities. I encourage anyone who is not yet vaccinated against COVID-19 to do so at their earliest opportunity.”

MNBC is providing educational information and sessions with leading health officials for those staff that are hesitant to receiving the vaccine. There are no exemptions provided to this policy.
