UPDATE – Overdose Alert Extended From Fraser Health to Merritt

Fraser Health – There continues to be increased reports of overdose across the Fraser Health Region. No particular substance has been identified. Some of these events are suspected to be substances contaminated with benzodiazepines.

On April 28, Fraser Health issued an overdose alert for the entire Fraser Valley and Fraser Health region. At the same time, the BC Coroner released their March overdose numbers showing a continued groth in OD deaths and were concerned about numbers in Hope. As of May 7, Interior Health issued an overdose alert for Merritt.

Reports include:
•    People with high tolerance levels are experiencing overdose
•    People have extremely low levels of consciousness
•    Naloxone may not fully reverse effects of an overdose involving benzos – making extra important to provide breaths and not delay in calling 9-1-1 if someone ODs.
