AbbyPD Investigating Thursday Shots Fired Call on Esquimalt Terrace, Suspect in Custody

Abbotsford – On Thursday evening (April 22, @10PM), Abbotsford Police responded to the 32600 block of Esquimalt Terrace for a report of a shot fired at a residence.  When officers arrived, they found evidence consistent with a shot being fired into a residence.  A family, including teenagers, were inside the home at the time of the shooting and fortunately no one was injured.

Within minutes of the call, police located the suspect a short distance away.  The Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Service responded to this incident; while tracking, the police dog located a shotgun nearby. 

A 20-year-old Abbotsford man, who is well-known to police, faces numerous charges, including, discharging a firearm, breaking and entering, and breaching numerous court conditions.  Of note, this suspect is currently prohibited from possessing firearms.

Investigators are in the preliminary stages of this investigation.  While the motive is not known at this time, there is no connection between the suspect and this family.  The family is not known to the police and this incident is not believed to be gang related. 

Abbotsford Police Patrol officers, Forensic Identification Unit officers and Major Crime Detectives continue their investigation and will be canvassing the area for video and additional witnesses.
