Mission- In 1920 the closest hospital to Mission was in New Westminster. This did not sit well with Emma Houlder, so the Mission Hospital Auxiliary and Mission Hospital Board began raising funds for a local hospital.
The Mission Health Care Auxiliary, or as they were known in 1920, the Mission Hospital Auxiliary will celebrate their 100th birthday in 2020. The Mission Hospital may have changed locations and grown to better the needs of the community, but one thing has remained the same – The steadfast dedication from the Mission Health Care Auxiliary.
With this dedication they are at it again. They are going to accomplish the largest fundraiser in their 100 year history. $500,000 for new laboratory equipment is the goal.
As part of their efforts to meet the goal the Mission Hospital Auxiliary is selling raffle tickets. First prize is a trip for 2 to Vegas with 3 night’s accommodation, second prize is a strand of pearls and third is a cash prize of $500. Tickets are $10 each and available from the Auxiliary at Mission Memorial Hospital.
The Laboratory at Mission Memorial Hospital is in need of attention. The hospital laboratory tests blood, urine, and other samples including immunology, microbiology, and endocrine tests. Lab improvements will allow the health care providers to get patient results with even greater efficacy thus aiding patient care and diagnoses’.
The Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation has partnered with the Mission Health Care Auxiliary to make the Lab a stronger department at MMH.
