Chilliwack Players Guild Casting Call – January 14 & 15 – The Cripple of Inishmaan

Chilliwack – The Chilliwack Players Guild is pleased to announce auditions for its new spring production:  The Cripple of Inishmaan. It’s a dark comedy by Martin McDonagh, who links the story to the real life filming of the documentary Man of Aran. It is set on the small Aran Islands community of Inishmaan, off the western coast of Ireland in 1934. The interesting and eclectic village inhabitants are excited to learn of a Hollywood film crew’s arrival on a neighbouring island to make a documentary about life on the islands. The lead character, “Cripple” Billy Claven, eager to escape the gossip, poverty and boredom of Inishmaan, vies for a part in the film, and to everyone’s surprise, the orphan and outcast gets his chance − or so some believe.

The play’s revival was a recent Broadway hit starring Daniel Radcliffe (of Harry Potter fame) in the lead role. It is filled with humour, and features wonderful characters. The Players Guild production, directed by Clint Hames, will open April 5th at the Rotary Hall at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre.

Open auditions will be held Sunday, January 14 and Monday, Jan.15 at the Players Guild Hall (45530 Spadina Avenue; red door off gravel lot) starting at 7 pm both evenings. There are roles for men & women, ages 20 through 70. The roles all require an Irish accent, support will be provided for accents. An advance copy of script, in pdf. format can be requested by emailing auditions@playersguild.ca
