Abbotsford Racist Viral Video Suspect – Sentenced To Probation, Restrictions (VIDEO)

Abbotsford/Hope  – OCTOBER 31 UPDATE – 48 year old Karry Corbett was sentenced in Abbotsford Provincial Court to a two month conditional sentence as well as one year probation. As part of his sentence, he has an overnight curfew and must stay clear of an area in Abbotsford (Maclure Road, Highway 11, Marshall Road and Gladwin Road).

This is from his guilty plea to assault back in September Three other charges: uttering threats, causing a disturbance and a second count of assault, were stayed by the Court.

The verbal attack went viral and was captured by Lawyer Ravi Duhra after Corbett unleashed a verbal tirade against a 72 year old parking attendant in October 2016.

SEPTEMBER 22, 2017 UPDATE –  Karry Vernon Corbett of Hope, the man who was filmed spewing racial slurs at an Abbotsford lawyer back in October 2016, pleaded guilty to one count of assault in Abbotsford Provincial Court.

The video went viral as he verbally spewed out racial slurs, unaware that the victim was a legal eagle.

Three other charges against him including uttering threats, causing a disturbance and another count of assault are expected to be stayed at sentencing next month.

Corbett’s next court appearance, for sentencing, will be October 3.

DECEMBER 20 2016 UPDATE – A trial date has been set for 47 year old Karry Vernon Corbett of Hope.  His trial starts September 28, 2017 in Abbotsford provincial court.

He is facing four charges – two counts of assault and one count each of uttering threats and causing a disturbance.

NOVEMBER 4 2016 UPDATE – On Friday Afternoon, Karry Vernon CORBETT went to the Abbotsford Courthouse and turned himself in. He was taken into custody without incident. The APD would like to thank all of those who assisted with this investigation.

OCTOBER 31 2016 UPDATE – APD Media Release – On Friday, October 21, 2016 at 1:45 pm, a witness observed a suspect yelling at a parking enforcement officer in the 33600 block of South Fraser Way. The witness used his cell phone to record some of the incident. The suspect then focused his anger and attention on that witness and went on a tirade that included many racist and disturbing remarks.

The witness contacted the Abbotsford Police Department after the suspect left the area. APD investigators spoke with witnesses and obtained a copy of the video and identified the suspect involved. A report to Crown Counsel was forwarded recommending charges against the suspect.

On Saturday, October 29, 2016, 47-year-old Karry Vernon CORBETT of Hope was charged with two counts of Assault, one count of Uttering Threats and one count of Causing a Disturbance. Warrants have been issued and police have been actively seeking to locate and arrest him. Anyone with information concerning his current whereabouts should contact their local police.

OCTOBER 24 2016 ORIGINAL STORY – It started over a Friday dispute involving a reserved parking spot on South Fraser Way at Pauline Street (Five Corners).

A Caucasian man verbally assaulting the person holding the camera, sometimes coming as close as face-to-face,and for over two minutes in the video, the man is yelling racist remarks, adding “You should go back to India and White Power.”

The video has gone viral and caught the attention of APD.

Abbotsford Police Sergeant Judy Bird says officers are aware of the situation and have identified both men.

APD have yet to recommend any charges although they have contacted the province’s Hate Crimes Unit and Crown Counsel.
