Chilliwack School District Buys Land For New Elementary/Middle School On Tyson Road

Chilliwack – The Chilliwack Board of Education has announced  that the District has finalized the purchase of a site for a new south side school.
This 12.4 acre parcel of land at the end of Tyson Road, just north of the Vedder River, would be an ideal location for a new school, with plenty of room for a large building, playing fields and parking.
Chilliwack is a rapidly growing community and school district, with an increasingly greater need for student instructional spaces.
In its five-year capital plan, the Chilliwack School District has prioritized the construction of a large new elementary/middle school on the south side of Chilliwack to help alleviate capacity issues in the District.
The Province chipped in $2.15 million in funding support for the property acquisition.
The district has been asked to submit a business case for the new school to the Ministry of Education this fall and is hopeful it will receive approval for the project.
The school district will continue to make the case for additions to GW Graham Middle Secondary and Chilliwack Secondary Schools.
