Chiefs Needed OT For 10th Win In A Row

Chilliwack, BC – Darien Craighead’s eighth goal of the season 48 seconds into the first overtime gave the Chiefs a 3-2 win over the visiting Powell River Kings Friday night.

The Chiefs (16-5-1-2) have now won ten straight and increased their lead atop the Mainland Division to three points over the Wenatchee Wild.

The Kings opened the scoring at the 14:23 mark of the first period when Carter Turnbull’s shot from a sharp angle beat Chiefs goaltender Aidan Pelino.

Shots after one period favored the Chiefs 10-7.

The Kings carried the play for most of the second period but were unable to increase their lead.

With 3:17 left in the period Jordan Kawaguchi scored this 13th of the season on a breakaway to tie the game at one.

That score held until Tristan Mullin was able to knock a rebound behind Pelino with 3:01 left in the third period to put the Kings up 2-1.

With 31 seconds left in the period and Pelino on the bench for an extra attacker, Dennis Cholowski was able to beat Kings goaltender Jeff Smith from the left faceoff circle to send the game to overtime. The goal was Cholowski’s fifth of the season.

Jordan Kawaguchi finished the game with a goal and two assists and was named the game’s first star. Kawaguchi now has 20 points during the Chiefs ten game win streak.

Attendance was a season high 3,018.

The Chiefs are right back on home ice Saturday night when they host the Wenatchee Wild.
