Drunk Driver Hits Chilliwack Woman – Charges Pending

Chilliwack, BC –  One woman was taken to hospital and a driver detained by police after a pedestrian was struck by a motor vehicle in the downtown core.

Early  Sunday Morning (September 27, 2015 at approximately 1:30 a.m.) RCMP received a report of a vehicle that had driven away after colliding with a pedestrian in the 45400 block of Wellington Avenue. General Duty officers quickly arrived at the address where they located a 25 year old woman suffering non- life threatening injuries. The victim was transported to hospital by BC Ambulance.

Within minutes of the collision a patrolling General Duty officer observed a grey car being driven erratically in the area locally known as the 5 Corners. After stopping the car the officer formed the opinion the 24 year old Chilliwack man operating the automobile had consumed alcohol. Further investigation quickly linked the grey car to the incident on Wellington Avenue.

“Police will be submitting a report to Crown Counsel of all circumstances of the incident for their assessment of criminal charges for Impaired Driving and Operating a Motor Vehicle Over .08,” said Cpl. Mike Rail.
