Chilliwack, BC – On Thursday October 1, 2015(at approximately 4:50am) the Chilliwack Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire located in the 45000 block of Lewis Avenue. Occupants were home at the time of the fire and woke up to the smell of smoke. The occupants quickly evacuated the home, called 911 and tried to extinguish the fire with a garden hose.
Firefighters responded from Halls 1 and 4 and on arrival, reported seeing smoke and flame at the front entrance of the two story residential home. Fire crews setup a defensive attack and quickly brought the fire under control.
The home suffered fire damage to the exterior and roof structure of the home. Fire also extended to the interior of the structure causing damage to a portion of the home.
The residents are currently in the care of Emergency Social Services. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries.
This fire appears to be deliberately set and is under investigation by Chilliwack Fire Department and RCMP fire investigators.
