Macken Avenue Arson

Chilliwack, BC – At 11:00pm on July 3rd 2015, firefighters from Chilliwack fire halls 1 and 4 responded to a structure fire in the 46000 block of Macken Avenue.

When firefighters arrived they found a vacant, single storey residential duplex unit with light smoke and flame showing from the window of the bedroom. Crews gain access through the front door of the home and quickly extinguished the fire.

No one was hurt.

Chilliwack Fire Department reminds owners of buildings that are vacant and slated for future development that they should be secured by boarding up all windows and doors and have utility companies disconnect all services which would include gas, electricity and water.

These buildings should be demolished as soon as possible due to the fact that a fire within a vacant structure significantly increases the risk to fire fighter safety and surrounding exposures.

This fire was deliberately set and is under investigation by Chilliwack Fire Department and RCMP fire investigators.

If anyone has any information about this fire, they are asked to call the RCMP at 604-792-4611 or anonymously through Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS FREE (8477) or www.chilliwackcrimestoppers.ca
