Abbotsford – On Monday, Abbotsford City Council was going to pot. Council gave approval to a Bylaw permitting up to 4 Cannabis Stores within the City.
Now comes other procedures. There are 10 approved properties, subject to a licence granted by the Provincial Government and Council final approval of applicants.
Among the locations are Mount Lehman Road, South Fraser Way, Whatcom Road and North Parallel Way.
This coming as many Lower Mainland communities won’t allow these stores at all. Chilliwack recently allowed the first on City land after shops opened up on First Nations property.
So this is not a done deal. Of course social media lit up with questions and complaints. Abbotsford Councilor Dave Loewen addressed some of those concerns on his Facebook page including the illegal locations: Prov Gov’t has given notice that upon City’s adoption and opening of first store, they will enforce closure of illegal stores via seizure and significant fines.
