TWU Volleyball Is #1 In Country

Langley – The latest U SPORTS Top 10 rankings are out, and the Spartans have yet another new No. 1 in the country.

The defending national champion Spartans men’s volleyball team is back in the No. 1 ranking for the first time since Nov. 27, 2018. The rankings come on the heels of TWU picking up back-to-back three set victories over Winnipeg in the home opener last week (Oct. 25-26).

Joining the men’s team are the women’s volleyball team, who maintain their No. 1 ranking in the country after sweeping the Wesmen in consecutive games over the weekend (Oct. 25-26) at home and improving to 4-0 to open the season.

At No. 2, the women’s soccer team also continues on from its ranking last week. The Spartans opened their Canada West playoffs with a thrilling 2-1 quarter-final victory over Fraser Valley at Chase Office Field Sunday (Oct. 27). With the win, TWU advanced to the Canada West Final Four, where the Spartans will play UBC in the semifinals Nov. 2 hosted by MacEwan in Edmonton.

The women’s cross-country ranks No. 9 in the country after an impressive weekend at the Canada West Championships in Calgary (Oct. 26). Fifth-year Joanna Williams (Campbell River, B.C.) led the charge finishing 3rd, while the Spartans team finished second place overall.

Both volleyball teams are back in action this week, as they take host MacEwan Friday (6 & 8 p.m.) and Saturday (5 & 7 p.m.) at the Langley Events Centre.

For the second straight season, U SPORTS is using the ELO Rating System for the calculation of its weekly national rankings.
