Abbotsford –The Abbotsford Police Foundation (APF) announced that it has received a donation of $10,000 from the Envision Financial Community Endowment and First West Foundation.
This donation will be used to help fund AbbyPD ‘Youth Making Positive Choices’ (YMPC) initiatives. Programming included under the YMPC “umbrella” changes from time to time to reflect current priorities in our community.
The Abbotsford Police Foundation funds only Abbotsford Police Department (AbbyPD) initiatives. Each grant funding request begins with an idea from an AbbyPD member, and must be approved by Chief Constable Mike Serr before the APF board considers it.
Current Youth Making Positive Changes initiatives include:
- AMPlify Positives: in 2019 this innovative initiative matched community funds to create a program that brings together youth, parents and AbbyPD school liaison officers to create positive outcomes.
- Abbotsford Police Camp: This annual weeklong day camp for kids helps them learn new skills while interacting with local police.
- Abbotsford Police City Basketball Tournament: This tournament that attracts over 750 students annually promotes positive choices for youth through basketball.
Abbotsford Police Foundation President Kevin Boonstra says, “On behalf of our board of directors we’d like to acknowledge and thank the Envision Financial Community Endowment for their generous donation of $10,000 that will go toward important community policing programs for youth in our community.”
AbbyPD Chief Constable Mike Serr notes “I would also like to thank the First West Foundation for this generous donation. We truly appreciate the support and together we can and will make a difference. Our youth are our future and investing in them will make a difference.”
