Chilliwack Block Watch Enhanced Training For Its April Program

Chilliwack – Block Watch has increased their program in the last year by 27%. Currently we have over 60 streets participating in the program and over twenty interested in starting the program in their neighbourhood.

The Chilliwack Crime Prevention Society is offering Block Watch Captains and Co-Captains the opportunity to enhance the program by partnering with the Chilliwack Fire Department to offer training in Emergency Preparedness.

April 10th will mark the first training with instructor Lt. Lisa Axelson, Fire Prevention Officer, Chilliwack Fire Department.Instruction will start at 7pm sharp at Firehall 4 and is open to Captains and Co-Captains of the Block Watch program.

Kathy Funk, Chilliwack Block Watch Coordinator commented,“In an effort to have our neighbourhoods enhance the Block Watch program with this training, participants will add a layer of safety knowledge and learn how to createa plan in the event of an natural emergency that can be followed by residents on their street”. Block Watch is a program of “neighbours helping neighbours” and is a free community-based crime prevention program administered by the Chilliwack Crime Prevention Society.Residents on a street or in a complex form a communication chain.

They make a commitment to watch outfor each others’ properties,report suspicious activities both to each other and the local police.
