Chilliwack – The Chilliwack Food Bank is in desperate need of food donations. Please bring your food donations to the The Salvation Army Chilliwack Community Food Bank, 45746 Yale Road. For more information, feel to call at 604 792-0001.
“Donations to food banks plummet during summer months,” says Food Bank Coordinator Don Armstrong. Classes are out for the summer and that means an end to school breakfast and lunch programs for children in need. We are putting out the call for more donations in preparations for a long summer. “We see an increase in need with families coming through our doors and a decrease in donations coming in as summer holiday start,” says Don. Donations can drop-off as much as 60% during the summer months. One in every five children in BC live in poverty.
We need items with long shelf life like canned fish/meat, fruits and vegetables. Soups, stews, and chunky soups are also a great donation.
