UBCM Municipalities Annual Conference September 26 – 30

Victoria/Fraser Valley –  Nearly 2,000 community leaders from across British Columbia will be in Victoria September 26 – 30 for the 113th Union of British Columbia Municipalities (UBCM) Convention.

This year’s convention, which is themed “Stronger Together”, will kick off with opening day panels on tent cities and homelessness, gang violence, as well as climate action and forest
policy decision making.
While the Abbotsford delegation has not been announced, Chilliwack Mayor Sharon Gaetz will be joined by Councilors Sue Attrill, Jason Lum, Chris Kloot, Chuck Stam and Sam Waddington.
There are 177 resolutions on the agenda, with Chilliwack and the rest of the Valley focusing on marijuana laws, obvious homeless and gang problems, drug OD’s and concerns about building monster homes on ALR land.
The FVRD Fraser Valley Regional District has their concerns including project delays with BC Hydro and the increase of garbage and illegal gunfire-target practice that is happening within the Columbia Valley. Something that Conversation Officers can’t keep up with.
