Chilliwack Carjacking On Shaw Avenue

Chilliwack,BC –  RCMP are seeking the public’s assistance to identify a suspect in their investigation into the robbery of a taxi driver.

The investigation stems from a complaint received by police on August 9, 2015 at approximately 3:30 a.m. that a cab driver had been robbed on Shaw Avenue.  A General Duty officer immediately arrived at the address where the victim told police he had picked up a fare on the corner of William Street at Yale Road bound for Shaw Avenue.  After arriving at their destination, the suspect produced a knife ordering the driver out of the vehicle before driving away with the taxi.  The taxi company was tracking the stolen cab with the vehicle’s Global Positional System (GPS) to a location on Luckakuck Drive.

General Duty officers supported by the Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Service quickly travelled to the GPS position on Luckakuck Drive where police found the stolen taxi abandoned under the railway overpass.  Police conducted a thorough search of the area collecting evidence they believed was linked to the crime scene but did not find the suspect.

Surveillance cameras have produced some information.

The suspect is described as Caucasian male, approximately 25 years old, clean shaven, with short brown hair, wearing a grey Under Armour hoodie, jeans and white shoes.

Anyone with information to this incident is urged to contact the Chilliwack RCMP at 604-792-4611 or, should you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 FREE (TIPS).
