Victoria – Is there a split with the BC Conservatives in the Legislature.
On Monday, five BC Conservative Caucus members MLAs have voted against an NDP motion in the BC Legeslature to condemn US President Donald Trump’s proposed tariffs, and support BC response to target Republican states.
The MLA’s who voted with Leader John rustad were Tara Armstrong, Chilliwack North MLA Heather Maahs, Brent Chapman, Dallas Brodie and Jordan Kealy.
Chilliwack Cultus Lake MLA Áʼa꞉líya Theresa Warbus voted with the majority.
The tabled motion passed 86-5.
Black Press reports that Conservative MLA Bruce Banman, MLA Abbotsford South and his party’s whip, said he did not like the bill “because it was a trap” but defended the votes of the five MLAs.
Maahs also spoke in the Leg for the first time and that link is here. She mentioned Tydel Foods, Ruth & Naomi’s and Salvation Army but did not mention her predecessor MLA Dan Coulter who died in December of 2024 and who would have turned 50 last weekend.
